It gets rid of the smell and even some of the grime in the tank. It makes cleaning easier and makes keeping them more hygenic for those people worried about salmonella. One of the leading causes of Salmonella is a dirty habitat. Hagen Bio Care Turtle Clean is a MUST HAVE as a helper to the filter.
