(More customer reviews)I purchased this item from seven seas aquariums and the item came to me broken. I called them, and as soon as I knew it they told me they'd have another shipped out as fast as possible. Thirty minutes to an hour later Fed Ex received my package. To say the least I was very happy with customer service.
As for the product, it's a very sleek looking addition to any tank. It is however intended to be used for the new Fluval Edge Aquariums. It's designed to fit right in the back middle part of the Fluval tank where it covers the filter. It has three different places where you can put plants or bamboo to accent the decoration. I've also hidden my bubbler behind it which makes the tank that much more put together.
Watch out for some sellers who are selling this item for $27 but the shipping cost is $44 or something astronomical. All in all it's a very cool product and I highly recommend it.

(More customer reviews)After almost 2 years of service on our 72 gal. bow-front tropical aquarium I feel I can give a qualified opinion on this filtration system.It truly is wonderful.Bear in mind that I'm only a novice aquarist having only been in the hobby for 2 years.In fact this is the only filtration system I've used.But having done a considerable amount of research on the filtration needs of the typical tropical aquarium prior to purchase I was very happy to find a single system that addresses the core 3 phases of filtration, i.e., mechanical, chemical and biological.Also bear in mind that I am diligent in avoiding the 2 most common mistakes that "beginner" aquarists make, namely, "overstocking" and "water changes".Mosts professionals have told me that these are more important than any filtration system, however basic or elaborate, that you may purchase and that advice has served me well.The all-incapsulated design of the Fluval system really appealed to me.Having all filtration processes taking place within a single unit that can be hidden out of view I think appeals to many of us.The only elements of the system that can be seen are the "intake" and "return" lines.And these are easily hidden behind a well designed/planted tank so that your aquarium retains that natural look.The function of the system has been flawless and makes maintenance as easy as it can be. The only negative mark I would assign to it is that I just ordered what will be the third impeller cover.Within the head of the filter system the impeller cover does just what its name implies, it provides a base and cover that helps to stabilize and protect the impeller which produces the flow of water.However the cover is kept in place by cheaply made plastic clips that have now broken off twice during removal for cleaning.The first time it broke I was applying what I would consider normal force when it broke.Ok, shame on me.Today when I was removing it I was being very gentle and it broke again.Shame on Fluval.Fortunately the impeller cover has a nice compression fit which means it stays firmly in place despite the broken clip.So it's not like I'm in a panic situation with an aquarium with no filtration but I would recommend you keep a backup impeller cover handy just to be on the safe side (it's only a $10 part thank goodness).All said and done, when this system finally wears out, I still wouldn't hesitate to purchase another Fluval.Great little system.

(More customer reviews)VERY easy to set up... box is not even that heavy, as I expected. Love the look, easy maintenance and very decorative. Just make sure you put it ona table that is leveled or the water inside the tank will pool on one side and you'll have a giant bubble on one of the corners.

(More customer reviews)I bought this fluval bamboo ornament for my Fluval Edge Aquarium for $45 and I don't regret it
because it is the most elegant aquarium decor I have seen. it looks great with some live Sword plants
in the three spaces and it hides the heater and the water filtration tube. It looks really good but
mine came in a sort of gray color which actually looked better in my opinion and I saw that the
Squidward house ornament (yes from Spongebob) matches it very well.
I will try to get some pictures up soon. hope this helped.

(More customer reviews)I've been running the FX5 on a 125 gallon turtle setup for about two months now.Setup is very easy, especially if you have previous experience with canister filters.I saw another review that stated that the filter was noisy, but mine is pretty quiet even when the tank stand's door is open and the filter is exposed to the room.My flowrate has been relatively high, especially considering that it is packed with biomax and polishing pads.It is important to note that unlike other Fluval canisters, this beast actually filters water from top down, so you'll want your finer media like polishing pads in the bottom basket.
I docked a star because I am not a big fan of the design of the internal media baskets, nor do I like the cheap plastic 'T' rods that are used to pull them out.Also, despite the stop valves on the intake and outtake hoses, be ready to clean-up water when detaching for routine cleaning.
Although the Eheim Professional Canister Filters are arguably better for certain purposes, you aren't going to beat the value of the Fluval FX5.The features and specs you get are equivalent to several much more expensive filter options.
