(More customer reviews)Ive heard that these U-tube type overflows don't flow as well as the cpr weir types, but to be honest 900 gph is 900 gph.This thing works wonderfully, it is well constructed out of thick acrylic and was an easy install.Ive been using it for 2 months straight now and have not had to re prime the u tubes at all. excelent system.

The Perfect-a-Flow Undergravel Filter is a biological filtration system for fresh or saltwater aquariums. The filter circulates water through the gravel bed and oxygenates it for beneficial bacteria growth. The slots on the three filter plates have been designed to draw water evenly over the entire plate from front to back and left to right. The high tube connectors are molded into the filter plates to offer a secure grip onto the one-inch diameter lift tubes to keep the tubes from being knocked out by fish and preventing gravel from falling under the filter plate. There are twelve tubes holders and caps. The Perfect-A-Flo air stoneprovides aflow of fine bubbles. A 3/16 inch ridged tube connects to the air diffuser inside the uplift tube and will attach to airline tubing at the top of the uplift tube. When using an airpump and airstones use two uplift tubes per plate.The fish protector is molded right into each elbow to prevent fish from entering the uplift tubes.The Perfect-A-Flo Carbon Cartridge (not included) will fit into the fish protector.These cartridges contain top-quality activated carbon to remove harmful gases, odors, and unsightly discoloration.For powerhead attachment place the one-inch uplift tube on the outside tube holder. The powerhead should have a flow rate of 200-300gph. Use one uplift tube per plate when using a powerhead. Using a powerhead provides a higher flow rate which cuts down on algae growth and requires less maintenance, however, powerheads are harder to conceal.

(More customer reviews)This filter actually 'came with' a used aquarium I got from a garage sale...so I have no idea how old it is...but it works great! It is quiet, which is always a plus, and it is versatile. There are 4 trays, with two chambers each, in which to mix and match filter media. I am able to tailer mine to the strong needs of my turtle. Although the filter has a 100 gallon tank capacity, I am saving up for a second one on my 90 gallon tank...there is no such thing as over-filtering when it comes to turtles and I just love this fluval.
Initial set up is a bit overwhelming, but the directions are very clear. Once it is set up, maitenance is fairly easy. It's a bit bulky to haul to the sink to change out the media...but that's to be expected from something this size. I also have trouble getting the lid off and basically have to use a screwdriver as a lever...but honestly, I don't mind...I would rather have it be snug and leak proof than easy to remove!
The manual has a section that talks about the various components of filtering which can be helpful when deciding what to put where in your filter. It wasn't helpful to me. But this is probably the most widely used type of filter and a visit to any turtle or fish keeping community on the internet will yield plenty of tips and advice on setting up media that is most effective for your aquarium community.

(More customer reviews)I got this filter after reading several reviews via the internet. I have to say I was impressed with how easy it was to get it setup. Including the time to wash all the parts I got it going in about half an hour and it has been working flawlessly. Deciding to include the media in the new model was a smart move on Eheim's part. Since there are only two baskets in this model you have to be careful how you pack them otherwise they will not lock properly. If you want to include an extra filter pad for example you will have to skim off other media as they will have to share the same basket.
It is quiet...in fact it is so much quieter than the hang on filter it replaced that my partner asked me if it was working! It does an infinitely better job of keeping the tank wanter clean as well.
The only complaint I have is that the hinges for the multipurpose handle are plastic. I would have thought that metal of some kind would provide a more sturdy setup. (I mention this because while I was doing maintenance the handle actually popped off and I noticed it then). Otherwise it's been a flawless performer in the month and a half I've had it.
